 PBHL-H 345: Discussion Module 11

This assignment introduced the Lean philosophy and demonstrated how it can be applied across a wide range of healthcare settings to improve efficiency and quality. It also explored key process improvement tools, techniques, and concepts used to identify waste, streamline workflows, and support continuous improvement.

What I learned

In this course, I learned how healthcare operations management principles are applied to improve quality, efficiency, and patient outcomes within health organizations. I gained experience using quality improvement strategies, risk mitigation approaches, and project management tools to evaluate and redesign operational processes. Through discussions, case studies, and assignments, I learned how operational decisions intersect with strategic planning, organizational behavior, and human resources to address challenges and improve performance across healthcare settings

Program Competencies

This course strengthened key program competencies by developing my problem‑solving, analytical, and innovative thinking skills. I learned to critically analyze data, apply health information technology to improve organizational performance and population health, and collaborate with others to develop practical solutions to complex operational challenges. As an IUPUI Innovator and Problem Solver, I practiced investigating problems, designing solutions, making informed decisions, and carrying projects through to completion, while synthesizing information and working effectively in team‑based healthcare environments.
