Why Health Services Management?

I’ve always known I wanted to be part of healthcare, but I also knew I wasn’t meant for a clinical role. What inspired me was the idea of helping people by improving the systems that support their care. I started college as a Medical Imaging major, but it didn’t take long for me to realize that my strengths and interests were pulling me in a different direction.

Switching to Health Services Management was the moment everything clicked. I discovered a side of healthcare that is strategic, complex, and full of opportunities to make meaningful change behind the scenes. The business and leadership aspects of healthcare turned out to be far more interesting and impactful than I ever expected. This shift helped me find my place in the field, one where I can contribute to better patient experiences, stronger teams, and more efficient systems, even if I’m not the one providing direct clinical care

I’ve always wanted to feel like I’m making a real difference, and that’s what drew me to classes focused on improving healthcare systems and understanding how organizations can operate better. I’m especially interested in learning how to create meaningful change through process improvement, which is why I hope to earn a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt in the future and get my mba.

Aspirations of an emerging professional

AND WHY

My goal is to grow into a professional who is resourceful, empathetic, passionate, and creative, someone who can solve problems thoughtfully and support both patients and the teams who care for them. I believe that improving healthcare isn’t just about fixing large systems; it’s also about making sure those improvements reach underrepresented communities. Advancing equity for minorities and underserved groups is just as important to me as operational efficiency, and I hope to contribute to a healthcare system that serves everyone more fairly
